Turkish Foreign Policy Congress

Call for Papers

Conference title and date

“TURKISH FOREIGN POLICY IN THE 100TH YEAR OF THE REPUBLIC: HISTORY, THEORIES, ACTORS, ISSUES” Conference will be held by the Department of International Relations at Altınbaş University on May 4-5, 2023, in a hybrid format (in-person and online).

The objectives of the conference

The development process of Turkish foreign policy since the founding of the Republic of Türkiye has long been the focus of studies in this field. It can be said that today's discussions on the fundamental principles and parameters of Turkish foreign policy are built upon this historical reading. However, new topics, approaches, and methods that have emerged in the field of international relations have also led to a similar development process in the literature on Turkish foreign policy. Discussions that began with history and principles have expanded over time to encompass elements of continuity/change, threats/opportunities dilemmas, competing/conflicting visions, and old/new conceptualizations, but have not been limited to these topics. The individuals and institutions involved in the policy-making process, the political economy of foreign policy, the relationship between Türkiye's foreign policy and the international system, and strategic vision are among the topics that have attracted attention in recent times. However, it is evident that none of these topics have been examined as thoroughly as bilateral relations and regional policies in Türkiye's foreign policy. The expansion and deepening of the field of International Relations is reflected in studies on Turkish foreign policy, and it is observed that these studies are diversifying and increasing day by day.

On the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye, at a time when Turkish foreign policy is rapidly facing new problem areas alongside global and regional changes, the conference titled “TURKISH FOREIGN POLICY IN THE 100TH YEAR OF THE REPUBLIC: HISTORY, THEORIES, ACTORS, ISSUES” The main objective of the Congress is to discuss and analyze Turkish foreign policy from a theoretical and historical perspective, examining its past, present, and future in a multifaceted manner within the context of institutions, facts, issues, and global developments.

Within the framework of the conference, it is aimed that academics, witnesses of the foreign policy-making process, past and present members of the foreign policy bureaucracy, foreign policy writers, think tank employees, and civil society organization members discuss Turkish Foreign Policy in the 100th year of the Republic of Türkiye from different perspectives.
