Our Sailors Took The Third Place In The August 30 Victory Cup

Bosphorus Stage of TAYK BMW Borusan Otomotiv Victory Cup Yacht Race Completed. The August 30th TAYK BMW Borusan Otomotiv Victory Cup Yacht Race, organized as part of the Victory Day celebrations, witnessed colorful scenes on the Bosphorus. Organized on the 8th leg of the TAYK Istanbul trophy this year, 42 teams, including Borusan Racing, participated in the race. The race, which was open to “IRC class” yachts, also included “Support Class” yachts specially for the national day. Altınbaş University Sailing Team, consisting of Emirhan Kalkan, Mercan Pelin Ercan, Zeynep Çeliksoydan, İlayda Gürer, Buse Canbolat and Buket Tuzcu, skippered by Ferit Erdem Yılmaz, competed against tough opponents in the race. We congratulate all our sailors who managed to return to their campus with the 3rd prize and wish them continued success.

“My curiosity about the sea pushed me to sailing”

Team captain Ferit Erdem Yılmaz, a 2nd year Mechanical Engineering student, says that he met sailing at university. Captain Yılmaz said, 'When I attended the first training, my aim was to satisfy my curiosity about the sea and to get a hobby related to it. Since I have a great interest in things that work with the rules of mechanics and physics and I am successful in these areas, I joined the team in a short time. Although I am very new, our former club president Emirhan Kalkan saw it fit to hand over the duty to me when he graduated.”

“Clubs like sailing at universities make it easier for students to access these sports”

Can Keskin, Sports Coordinator at Altınbaş University, emphasized that the impact of university sports clubs has a great share in the development of students' social lives as well as opening new doors in their perspectives on life. He pointed out that sailing has become popular especially with the effect of national and international organizations organized in recent years. Can Keskin mentioned that sailing is not a sports branch that is easily accessible to everyone since it is one of the sports branches that appeal to the upper class in general, and stated that the free sailing trainings organized by Altınbaş University offer an opportunity to all sailing club students.
