Privacy Statement for Applicants and Candidates
1. Definitions
Personal Data: Any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
Processing of Personal Data: It defines as any operation performed on personal data, whether or not by automated means, including, but is not limited to, use, collection, retrieval, recording, storage, adaptation or alteration, organisation or restructuring, transfer, disclosure by transmission, dissemination or otherwise making available, restriction, erasure or destruction.
Data Subject: It refers to any identified or identifiable individual whose personal data is being used, processed or transferred.
Data Controller: A natural or legal person, public authority, company, agency or other body that, exclusively or jointly with others, determines the purposes and means of the personal data processing. As stated by this document, Altınbaş University (“University") that resides in Mahmutbey Dilmenler Cad No: 26, 34217 Bağcılar / Istanbul is the data controller of your data.
Explicit Consent: Permission for something that is given after being clearly presented with an option to agree or disagree with it.

2. Data Controller and Processor
Your personal data will be processed within the following scope by Altınbaş University (by its capacity as Data Controller and Processor) in accordance with Turkish Act No. 6698 on Protection of Personal Data (“KVKK").
3. Why We Process Your Personal Data
Your personal data will be collected and processed for the following purposes under Articles 5 and 6 of Turkish Act No. 6698 on Protection of Personal Data (“KVKK"): Performing activities conducted by the University; providing applicants/candidates with information on our academic programmes of all levels (short-cycle, bachelor's, master's and doctorate programmes, training and certificate programmes), other activities, and discounts; ensuring that all necessary tasks and work processes are properly carried out by the University staff in order to enable students to obtain, use and benefit from our services; planning and performing activities that are necessary to promote academic programmes and other university services.
4. Who We Transfer Your Personal Data To
In accordance with Articles 8 and 9 of Turkish Act No. 6698 on Protection of Personal Data (“KVKK") governing the terms and conditions, and purposes of personal data processing, your personal data will be transferred to our business partners, subsidiaries, public authorities and private persons for the purposes of performing activities conducted by the University; providing applicants/candidates with information on our academic programmes of all levels (short-cycle, bachelor's, master's and doctorate programmes, training and certificate programmes), other activities, and discounts; ensuring that all necessary tasks and work processes are properly carried out by the University staff in order to enable students to obtain, use and benefit from our services; planning and performing activities that are necessary to promote academic programmes and other university services.
5. How We Collect Your Personal Data | Lawful Basis for Processing
Your personal data will be processed and transferred to third parties for the lawful bases and purposes stated in articles (2) and (3) of this Privacy Statement, and as part of the terms and conditions, and purposes of personal data processing set forth in articles (5) and (6) of Turkish Act No. 6698 on Protection of Personal Data (“KVKK").
6. Your Rights as Data Subject under Article 11 of Act No. 6698
Should you have any requests or questions about data protection act or your rights as data subject, you can always contact us at tanitim@altinbas.edu.tr . We will respond to your questions/attend your requests free of charge as soon as possible, or within 30 days depending on the nature of your question/request. However, if your request requires a fee, you will be charged the fee determined by the Personal Data Protection Board of Türkiye. By contacting our University, as data subject, you have the right to:
» Query whether your personal data was processed, if yes, Request information how your data was processed,
» Learn about the purpose for which your personal data is obtained and processed, and whether it is being used for pre-specified purposes,
» Learn about third parties domestic and abroad to whom your personal data was transferred,
» Ask for the correction of any wrong or missing personal data; Request the deletion or destruction of your personal data in case the legal requirement for processing personal data is no longer in effect, request that the third parties are also notified of the aforementioned changes,
» Ask for the deletion, erasure or destruction of your personal data if the reasons requiring the processing of your personal data no longer exist, and request that the third parties, to whom your data is transferred, are also notified of the aforementioned changes, even though your personal data has been processed according to Turkish Act No. 6698 and other relevant legislation.
» Object to any outcome that could be to your disadvantage as a result of the analysis of your processed data exclusively by automated systems.
