Program Educational Goals

 

  1.        The ability to identify the risks of workplace accidents and occupational diseases.
  2.        The ability to develop systems and designs for minimizing the identified risks.
  3.        The ability to create a healthy and safe working environment.
  4.        The ability to eliminate the hazards on their sources.
  5.        The ability to develop legal procedures for disaster-based emergency situations.
  6.        The ability to increase the profitability of enterprises by reducing legal, moral and financial responsibilities of accidents.
  7.        The ability to give training in her field of responsibility using effective communication skills.
  8.        The ability to act in accordance with the code of ethics of the profession.

Program Competencies

  1.        Should be able to take necessary measures in the workplace in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Law and related legislation.
  2.        Should be able to identify hazards, make risk assessment in the workplace, eliminate hazards, keep risks under control and report these to her employer.
  3.        Should be able to make assessments by giving priority to preventive measures suitable to the conditions of the workplace and should be able to make suggestions to her employer about the safety measures by taking the opinions of all the employees.
  4.        Should be able to prepare periodic monitoring plans, maintenance and measurement plans at the workplace, and to apply these plans.
  5.        Should be able to prepare contingency plans defining immediate or imminent risks and potential accidents and indicating ways of preventing these risks and accidents, taking into consideration the results of risk assessment studies.
  6.        Should be able to take fire and explosion prevention measures such as performing periodic control of fire protection equipment, forming fire gang and carrying on fire drills.
  7.        Should be able to assess the health and safety conditions of the workplace and anticipate probable accidents and occupational diseases working in collaboration with the workplace health unit and be able to make plans for their prevention.
  8.        Should be able to take measures to prevent the recurrence of accidents and occupational diseases.
  9.        Should be able to make a risk assessment study in terms of health and safety and report its result to her employer in case a new equipment or machinery is to be installed in the workplace.
  10.    Should have knowledge on appropriate outfit for the personnel, its procurement, use, maintenance and testing.
  11.    Should be able to improve the working environment in terms of workers’ health, occupational hygiene, environmental pollution, etc.
  12.    Should be able to identify the effects of chemical, physical, ergonomic and psychological stress factors in the workplace, and be able to take necessary measures to eliminate them.
  13.    Should be able to identify necessary arrangements to improve the worker’s personal state of health and take measures accordingly.
  14.    Should be able to make sure that health check-ups of all the workers are regularly carried out and be able to deliver continuing education to them on the subject.
  15.    Should be able to plan every stage of the production in accordance with health and safety regulations, considering such factors as the efficiency and job security.
  16.    Should be able to communicate effectively in written and spoken Turkish; additionally, should be able to write, read and follow literature in English in her profession.
  17.    Should grasp the ethical values and responsibilities of the profession.
